Let’s talk Affordability!

Citizenship is a full-time job #1

Dear Evanston Voter,

Most people would agree that Evanston is becoming unaffordable for those of us who live here and unattainable for people who want to move here.

The budget is the one thing we can control. We need an “open book” transparent budget that keeps City costs as low as possible. A tight budget is just good government and will be essential as we brace for financial threats from a chaotic and vengeful Washington.

We need to keep in check rising costs from fees, permits and licenses and take action to protect the people who live here: seniors, working families, students, and all who call Evanston home.

But we need more revenue. Increasing the tax base could help but so would an influx of sales tax. We need new retail businesses and not just services.

As Mayor I will focus on…

  • Controlling the city budget - the portion of property taxes we can directly influence

  • Creating programs to help long-term residents stay in their homes by providing tax relief based on income qualifications

  • Formalizing a task force of staff, business and building owners, residents and resident experts to create a real plan to revitalize downtown

Please vote for me and vote for an “open book” administration with full transparency that’s focused on delivering results.

With great respect,

Jeff
