About Jeff

Short

Jeff Boarini is a candidate for Mayor of Evanston in the April 6, 2027 special election. A 36-year Evanston resident, he retired in 2016 as Director of Creative Services at McDonald’s Corporation after 20 years there, and has since served on the boards of Center for Independent Futures and Arts of Life. He finished second in the April 2025 mayoral election with 37.3 percent of the vote.

Longer

Jeff Boarini and his late wife, Joanne “Rocky” Kunz, moved to south Evanston in 1990 because the School for Little Children was the only preschool they could find that would include their son Ted, who was born with cerebral palsy. Ted went on through Washington, Nichols and ETHS, and Jeff has lived in Evanston ever since, now just west of downtown.

He was born in Chicago, grew up in Arlington Heights, and studied radio and television production at Southern Illinois University. He worked for the Bell System, ran his own video production company for a decade, and spent 20 years at McDonald’s Corporation, retiring in 2016 as Director of Creative Services.

Since then he has been a multi-term board member and co-chair at Center for Independent Futures, board president of Arts of Life from 2018 to 2021, a District 65 reading tutor until the pandemic ended the program, and the guitarist in Van Go Go, the Arts of Life band he plays in with Ted. He is not a career politician: decades as a corporate project manager taught him how to bring people together to get something done, and his years on two nonprofit boards taught him that the right people, working toward one goal, can make every dollar count.
